Preventive Dentistry in Newtown, Bucks County, PA
What is Preventive Dentistry?
Preventive Dentistry contributes to the overall health of a patient’s teeth and reduces the chance of negative diagnoses. Preventive Dentistry is both instructive, where the dental team informs a patient of the best way to take care of their teeth for a given reason, and procedural, where a dentist takes an action during a visit to prevent further cavities.
Preventive Dentistry at Home
In order to prevent cavities and increase the health of your teeth, here are some of the biggest contributing factors toward a healthy mouth that do not involve help from Dr. Lantzy:
- Brushing your teeth – The most obvious choice! Brushing your teeth is especially important after eating sweets! Remember to brush your tongue, and angle the bristles gently at the gumline to provide a thorough clean. An electric toothbrush like a Sonicare will offer an improved clean versus a manual toothbrush.
- Flossing – Flossing may seem time consuming at first, but once you get the technique down, you’ll find ways to save time – Ask us! Remember flossing should be performed daily – a lot of the harmful bacteria live between your teeth or in places that you toothbrush cannot reach.
- Eat a balanced diet – Limiting your sugar intake can be one of the biggest factors toward what happens in your mouth and body. Remember, bacteria and infections love sugar. Drink plenty of water, especially after sweets.
- Genetics – Some genetic factors [like your jaw shape may contribute to being more crowded and this] may cause you to be more prone to cavities than others. This doesn’t mean you don’t have any control. When you know what you may have a predisposition for, you can take measured focus to balance things out.
